The Grimma Muldental Triathlon is the largest sporting event in the district of Leipzig. After Corona in 2020 and a hollow that was too full last year, the 17th edition of the triathlon will take place on July 17, 2022.
Two years ago, Sportfreunde Neuseenland eV took over the traditional Muldental Triathlon. Due to Corona, the team had to cancel its first triathlon in 2020, but delivered a top competition in July 2021 and that without a swimming distance. This was canceled shortly before due to flooding. July 17 is now the new date for the competition day.
As usual, the athletes of the second Bundesliga will start. In addition, professionals, teams and families can register for the sprint distance (750 m swimming, 18.4 km cycling and 5.5 km running). For interested triathlon fans there is the super sprint distance with 350 m swimming, 9.2 km cycling and 2.2 km running. "Here you can test how a real triathlon feels without completely exhausting yourself," says Henrik Wahlstadt, chairman of Sportfreunde Neuseenland eV "Grimma is a great city and the Eins-Muldental-Triathlon has become a real cult event established. We hope that we can hold a "normal" triathlon this year, without flooding or extreme heat," said Wahlstadt.
